What is Gala (GALA)?
Gala, a blockchain gaming and entertainment platform founded in 2019, relies on its native token GALA to power all economic activity. The token was originally minted on Ethereum but now operates across several networks, including Gala’s own Layer-1 chain GalaChain, BNB Smart Chain, and Solana. GALA acts as the common thread connecting payments, rewards, node incentives, and community governance throughout the ecosystem.
GALA’s core functions in the Gala ecosystem
Every transaction on GalaChain requires a small amount of GALA as a network fee, which is then burned. Users can purchase in-game NFTs — such as skins, land plots, or characters — directly with GALA through the platform’s store. The token also serves as the daily reward for Founder’s Node operators who maintain the network. Holders can vote on which games receive development funding, making GALA a governance tool. Additionally, the Gala ecosystem extends beyond games into music and film through Gala Music and Gala Film, where GALA functions as a means of payment and reward. More recently, DeFi applications like GalaSwap have launched on GalaChain, allowing token swaps and further expanding GALA’s utility.
Gala’s security backbone: Founder’s Nodes
Gala’s network relies on a distributed set of Founder’s Nodes — capped at 50,000 and run by community members on their own hardware. These nodes validate transactions, store game data, and ensure the chain remains operational. To run a node, a license must be purchased using GALA. In return, node operators earn daily GALA payouts and occasional rare NFTs. Underpinning this is GalaChain, which uses a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) model where GALA stakers elect validators. This layered design decentralizes both the server infrastructure and the consensus process, reducing reliance on any single entity.
