What is Illuvium (ILV)?
Illuvium is a gaming ecosystem that weaves together a high-production sci-fi world with decentralized finance mechanics. The ILV token sits at the center of this structure, connecting governance, staking rewards, and in-game incentives into a single economic loop.
What purpose does the ILV token serve?
ILV is an ERC-20 token living on the Ethereum network. Holding it grants three core capabilities within the ecosystem. The first is voting power: ILV stakers can shape the project’s direction by participating in the Illuvium DAO, deciding on anything from feature updates to fee structures. The second is a share of the revenue. A portion of the fees collected from the in-game marketplace and other sources is regularly distributed to users who lock their ILV.
The token also acts as a reward for in-game achievements. Players can earn ILV through tournaments and quests, though these rewards remain locked for a set period before they can be withdrawn to an external wallet. If a player wants to use those rewards inside the game immediately, they can convert the locked amount into sILV2. This secondary asset exists only off-chain; it cannot be moved out of the game or traded on external markets.
How does the game world actually play?
Built on Unreal Engine 5, Illuvium presents an open-world sci-fi experience where players hunt and capture creatures known as Illuvials. Each captured beast is minted as a distinct NFT with its own traits. These Illuvials can be leveled up, fused to unlock more powerful forms, and fielded in battle against other players’ teams.
The experience splits across three connected titles. Overworld delivers the core open-world exploration and capture loop. Arena focuses on competitive player-versus-player combat. Beyond offers a lighter, collection-driven mode centered around Illuvial-themed profile pictures. Assets can move between these modes, so a creature captured in Overworld can later be traded or battled in Arena.
Although the game’s logic is anchored to Ethereum, all NFT trading runs on the Immutable X layer-two network. This means buying or selling an Illuvial happens without gas fees and with instant finality. Players can trade through the game’s own marketplace or list their assets on any compatible external platform.
