What is edgeX (EDGE)?
Most decentralized exchanges force traders to choose between the deep liquidity of central limit order books and the self-custody of on-chain settlement. edgeX (EDGE) refuses that trade-off. It is a perpetual futures and spot exchange where orders are matched off-chain at high speed, while final settlement remains on-chain under the user's control.
What does holding EDGE unlock on the platform?
EDGE is not a passive governance token. Traders who stake it see their per-trade fees drop across futures, spot, and real-world asset markets. Stakers also receive a share of the protocol's trading fee revenue, distributed in real time. Beyond the fee benefits, holding EDGE gives a vote on which new markets get listed and how the exchange allocates its resources. The platform compounds these incentives by using a portion of its income to repurchase EDGE from the open market and permanently remove those tokens from circulation.
How does edgeX keep trading fast while staying non-custodial?
edgeX separates where it matches and where it settles. Order matching happens in a dedicated engine that runs outside the blockchain—capable of handling hundreds of thousands of orders per second with latency measured in milliseconds. Once a trade is matched, the result is sent to Ethereum for settlement, where smart contracts update balances without ever taking custody of user funds. The initial deployment relied on StarkEx zero-knowledge rollups for this workflow. The platform has since migrated to EDGE Chain, an Arbitrum-based rollup built specifically for the exchange. This dedicated chain gives edgeX full control over throughput and fee structure while inheriting Ethereum's security. Circle's CCTP integration also allows USDC to move directly between chains without wrapped versions or third-party bridges.
