About Ethereum Classic
Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a layer-1 smart contract platform born from the untouched chain of Ethereum after the 2016 DAO incident. When Ethereum's community voted to hard fork and reverse the theft, a faction chose to preserve the original ledger under the "Code is Law" principle—this chain became known as ETC.
Unlike Ethereum, which later moved to Proof-of-Stake, ETC maintains Proof-of-Work consensus and relies on mining for security. It remains EVM-compatible and enforces a capped monetary policy with a maximum supply of roughly 210.7 million ETC, mirroring Bitcoin's scarcity model for a smart contract network.
